MANILA – Actors Gerald Anderson and Rayver Cruz were all smiles as they left for France on Monday morning to attend the Cannes International Film Festival.
Their action movie "On The Job (OTJ)" will hold its world premiere this month as part of a section at the prestigious festival.
The Erik Matti-directed film is one of the selections of the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs or the Directors' Fortnight, a section at Cannes held independently by the French Directors Guild.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Anderson said he never thought he would get the chance to represent the country in such a prestigious event.
“Ito na ang pagkakataon ko. Bata pa lang ako, pangarap ko na magkaroon ng opportunity para i-represent ang bansa natin. Never ko akalain na ire-represent ko for acting. Nung bata ako, pangarap ko kasi sa sports eh. Sobrang laking opportunity nito sa amin. Excited na kami,” he said.
Anderson said he feels privileged that out of the many movies hoping to get accepted, “OTJ” was chosen to be show in Cannes.
“Ang liit ng bansa natin, sa dami ng sumaling iba’t ibang films mula sa iba’t ibang bansa, bilang isang Pinoy malaking karangalan sa atin iyan. More than anything, nandoon kami para i-represent kung ano ang kaya ng Pinoy,” he said.
Cruz feels the same way.
“Ngayon lang ako nakagawa ng ganitong movie. Sobrang blessed ako mapasama sa ganitong proyekto. Sobrang excited, sobrang natutuwa kasi first time. Napabilang na ako sa pelikula, napasama pa ako sa trip na ito,” he said.
In the movie, Rayver Cruz plays a cop who’s always seen with Piolo Pascual's National Bureau of Investigation agent whose job puts him at odds with his wife (Shaina Magdayao). Anderson, meanwhile, portrays a "hitman" on the run.
The film also stars Joel Torre, Joey Marquez and Angel Aquino.
